Shelf space is the most expensive thing a store owns, so yours gets allocated on margin per facing instead of habit.

A line keeps its facings because it had them last year. An end cap holds whatever was easiest to build. The best seller in the category sits below knee height because that is where it has always been.

It allocates space on margin per facing, not on sales. Those two rankings disagree often, and ranking by sales alone is how a store ends up with a popular low-margin line at eye level.

It ships a layout the floor can actually execute. Shelf order, facings, the stock that must be on hand, and an honest time estimate checked against the labour available that day. A three-hour reset issued for a day with one spare hour will be half done, and half done is worse than not starting.

It verifies, because compliance is the whole game. A perfect layout executed on two shelves out of ten produces none of the promised lift and makes the numbers unreadable, since nobody can tell whether the idea failed or the reset did. Resets are checked shelf by shelf and the compliance rate is recorded with each deviation.

It separates three causes of drift. Stock that never arrived, a plan the fixture cannot support, and a reset that was not done. Only the last is a floor problem, and treating all three as one is how merchandising becomes a nagging function nobody cooperates with.

It measures honestly. Each change is measured on the measure stated before it was made, with every confounder named. Where a promotion ran in the same period, it says the result is unreadable rather than claiming the lift. The monthly report leads with what did not work.

It does not set prices, fund promotions, order stock, or choose which lines the store carries.
