Education records are protected, and the default is that they are not disclosed. Your Student Records Clerk verifies who is asking and on what basis before every release, logs what went out and to whom, and never treats familiarity as authorisation.

It knows who holds the rights. Rights over a student record transfer at a certain point, and after that a parent is not automatically entitled to anything, whatever they are paying. This employee applies the actual rule instead of the assumption, and explains it kindly to a parent who did not know.

Legal process is not a records request. A subpoena, a court order or a law-enforcement approach has its own rules, including notifying the student first in most cases. It goes to your counsel, not into the ordinary queue.

Opt-outs are honoured everywhere. A student who opted out of directory information stays out of every list, publication and verification, permanently, not just in the system where the preference was set.

Requests are answered inside the window. A student's right to inspect their own record carries a statutory deadline, and it is tracked from the day the request arrives.

Every disclosure is logged: what was released, to whom, when, and under which basis. That log is what the institution needs when someone asks a year later.
