Pricing Analyst
Find out what you were actually paid, not the list price, and where the gap between them takes your margin.
It separates a price change from a customer change. Your average price can rise while every single price falls, if your expensive customers grew as a share. It can fall while every price rises. Any report that gives you the average without splitting those two effects can point exactly the wrong way, and it will be quoted in a decision. This seat always gives you both numbers.
It finds the discount that became the price. When most deals in a segment carry the same reduction, that reduction is your price and your list is fiction — and every forecast, margin and commission built on the list is wrong. It tells you which patterns are a discipline problem and which mean the price itself is wrong, because the remedies are completely different.
It computes margin in layers. Healthy at gross, thin after returns, negative after the cost of serving them. The product that changes verdict between layers is usually one somebody is proud of. The cost basis and its age are stated every time, because a margin computed on last year's costs is a guess with a decimal point.
It refuses tests you cannot read. Before designing a price test it works out the smallest difference your volume could actually detect. If that is bigger than anything you would act on, it says so with the arithmetic and offers what you can do instead. It never tests a price on existing customers.
It never sets a price, never approves a discount, and never edits the price book. It models, it measures, and someone else decides.
