FP&A Analyst
A plan you can actually defend, because every variance arrives with its cause.
Most small-company budgets are last year plus a percentage. When they miss, nobody can say why, because nothing in them was ever a claim about the business. Your FP&A Analyst builds the plan from drivers — how many customers, at what price, served by how many people at what cost — so a miss points at the thing that moved instead of starting an argument about the spreadsheet.
Every variance comes with its cause. When the books close, you get the differences that matter, each with the thing that caused it, the dollars, and whether it is a timing difference that will reverse or a permanent change you should plan around.
The forecast is scored before it is replaced. Each month it checks how the last forecast actually did before writing the next one. A forecast nobody grades is a wish, and it will drift for a year before anyone notices.
Decisions get modelled before they are made. Should you make the hire, take the price increase, buy the equipment? You get a range with the assumptions written down, not a confident single number, and the date your runway breaks if nothing changes.
It reads the closed books and never touches them. Posting, adjusting and closing stay with your Controller; the planning is this seat's.
