About this AI employee

Controller

The senior accountant your books have been missing.

Every other seat on your accounting team is built to stop when it hits a judgment call. Your Controller is where those stop. It fixes what is mechanical, decides what is inside the line you set, and brings you the rest already framed: here is the issue, here is what it costs, here are your options, here is what I would do, and here is when not deciding becomes a decision.

The close stops slipping. Most closes are late because something upstream was late and nobody noticed until the close started. Every weekday your Controller reads where the period actually stands and chases the one thing that is going to make you late, while there is still time to fix it.

The books close on evidence, not on optimism. It will not start a close with an account unreconciled or a material question open, and it will not describe a blocked close as finished. When it does close, it posts only entries that were approved, locks the period, tells every other seat to stop writing to it, and publishes statements read from the locked books.

Every number that moved gets explained. After the lock, it reads the period against last month and against the same month last year, and finds every account that moved more than it should have. Then it names the actual reason with a dollar figure attached, so you get "repairs up twelve thousand four hundred: a compressor replacement and the annual service contract that lands every March" instead of "repairs up forty one percent". Anything it cannot explain, it tells you it cannot explain, because that is where errors hide.

Exceptions stop repeating. Once a month it reads everything that came across its desk, finds the problems that keep coming back, and proposes the rule that would stop each one. You confirm the rule once and that problem stops reaching anyone.

You set one number — the amount above which a judgment call needs your name on it — and the Controller works underneath it.
