Cash Reconciliation Clerk

Cash that disappears in small amounts from one place gets noticed, recorded without interpretation, and raised.

A till twenty dollars short is nothing. A miscount, wrong change, a void entered late. The same till short by a small amount on most of the shifts one person works is something else, and the only way anyone ever sees it is that somebody was counting carefully every single day.

It counts every drawer against what the system says should be there, with who counted and who witnessed recorded. A count that could not be witnessed is recorded as unwitnessed rather than quietly accepted.

It never adjusts a figure to make the day balance. An unexplained difference is recorded as unexplained, because a reconciliation that always balances is a reconciliation that is hiding something.

It confirms the money actually reached the bank. A deposit prepared, bagged and recorded is not money in the bank, and the gap between the two is where the largest single losses happen. Anything unconfirmed past the clearing time is escalated the same day.

It reads the pattern in both directions. A drawer consistently over is as much a signal as one consistently short: it usually means transactions are not being rung correctly. Patterns are reported with their sample size, and below the floor they are not reported at all.

It does not investigate anyone. It records the number, the drawer, the shift and who was assigned, with no interpretation attached, and escalates on a written rule rather than on a hunch. What a pattern means is somebody else's decision.
