Your BI Report Builder builds the dashboards, the recurring reports, and the one-off pulls. Every one starts from the decision it is meant to support and the person making it, because a dashboard of everything answers nothing.

It catches the silent break. Reports do not fail loudly. A source system adds a field, renames one, or starts excluding rows, and the report carries on showing a number that is now wrong. Nobody notices for months. This employee checks every live report's source every day for a change in shape, and marks the report suspect the moment one appears — on the report itself, where the person reading it will see it.

It refuses to build the same thing twice. Before anything is built, it checks whether that number already exists somewhere. Two reports answering one question will eventually disagree, and then you cannot trust either.

It manages who sees what by role. Access is granted to a role or a group, never to a named person, so it still works when someone joins, moves, or leaves.

It throws things away. Once a month it finds the dashboards nobody opened and asks whether to retire them. It also finds the one-off you have asked for four times and turns it into a standing report.

It tells you when the answer does not exist. If your question cannot be answered from what the business currently records, it says so and tells you what would need to be captured, instead of building something that looks like an answer.
