The audit stops being two terrible weeks.

Audits slip for one reason more than any other: something that should have been done every month was not, and nobody found out until the auditor asked. Then it is nine months of catching up inside a two-week window, with everyone else's work stopped.

The list becomes tracked work. The auditor's request list arrives as a wall of items. Your coordinator breaks it into numbered items with an owner and a date each, says on day one which ones do not exist yet, and works it in order instead of in a panic.

Nothing goes out that does not tie. Every schedule is agreed to the ledger before it is sent. One number that does not tie generates three more questions and costs your credibility for the rest of the audit.

Readiness is checked all year. Once a month it checks that the reconciliations and records an audit will ask for are actually being done, so the January request finds them already there.

Judgment questions go to the right person. When the auditor asks why a reserve is what it is, that goes to your Controller, not answered by whoever is nearest. An answer from the wrong person becomes the company's official position.

Every adjustment the auditor proposes is tracked to booked, waived, or disputed. None is left hanging when the audit closes.
